Kepo AVAS-System

Due to concerns about the driving noise of electric and hybrid vehicles, the noise generated at low speeds and during start-up is lower than that of conventional internal combustion engine vehicles due to the characteristics of the powertrain, and therefore it is difficult to be detected by pedestrians while driving on the road, which in turn increases the risk of traffic accidents, and based on these issues, AVAS systems have been developed with the aim of alerting pedestrians as well as other moving vehicles.

AVAS is an important system for all electric and hybrid vehicles. KEPO developed AVAS for the following reasons:

Road safety for pedestrians: The AVAS system enhances road safety by alerting pedestrians to the presence of a moving electric vehicle with an audible warning tone.

Acoustic Brand Identity: Not limited to visual differences such as appearance, KEPO can customize the sound solution emitted by AVAS to enhance the brand recognition of the car.

Laws and regulations: Beginning in 2019, laws and regulations in the European Union, the United States, Japan, and China will require electric and hybrid vehicles to be equipped with an audible warning system.

KEPO’s AVAS has been gradually developed from the initial single alarm tone to active sound, as well as AVAS, exterior speaker, welcome and siren horn functions in a four-in-one product, to design the intelligent new energy vehicles after 2024, and to enhance safety, interactivity, and user experience in the ever-evolving field of advanced development of automotive intelligent cockpits.

How does AVAS work in KEPO?

The AVAS system receives speed and gear signals from the vehicle gateway via its CAN communication module. These signals are processed by the MCU (Mikrocontroller-Einheit), which retrieves pre-stored sound data from flash memory and dynamically adjusts pitch and volume to generate realistic engine sounds to alert pedestrians and other road users of approaching vehicles.

Acoustic Vehicle Alarm System Future

Da sich die Technologie ständig weiterentwickelt, AVAS systems may be further refined and enhanced in the future. Zum Beispiel, future electric vehicles may be able to develop more accurate sound and all-in-one function products based on factors such as vehicle speed, direction of travel, and pedestrian location. There may also be a greater variety of sound options available to meet different needs.
