Development history of automotive ambient lighting
The development of LED industry promotes the gradual penetration of automotive ambient lighting, resulting in a high installation rate of new energy vehicles.
2005-2008: As a conceptual product, automotive ambient lighting was mainly used to modify commercial and concierge vehicles in the Chinese market. At this time, LED was in its early stages and used halogen light sources.
2008-2013: The LED industry developed rapidly, and ambient lighting was used in the foreign commercial vehicle industry, including luggage rack light strips and seat armrests in buses.
2013-2017: Famous car manufacturers began releasing a new generation of models with seven color ambient lights, guiding many car manufacturers to try installing them.
Since 2018: On the one hand, the car manufacturers have gradually installed it, and on the other hand, with the continuous penetration of new energy vehicles and the upgrading of intelligent cabins, the penetration rate in the new energy field is relatively high. As of 2021, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles is 35.6%, and the penetration rate of fuel vehicles is 23.6%.

KEPO’s monochrome, multi-color, and rhythmic ambient lights, whose multi-color ambient lights can achieve multiple color transformations, originate from LED light sources. By using the principle of red, green, and blue as the primary colors, the three colors can be controlled to have 256 levels of grayscale through driving modulation and mixed arbitrarily to produce 256×256×256=16777216 colors. After the input data from LIN is received and processed by LED Driver, RGB LED lights are controlled to achieve multi color and multi brightness levels, and audio signals are received to achieve rhythmic functions. At present, 1-2 chips are mainly used, and dominant IC RGB and other solutions have also been developed. The next generation of ambient light control technology allows users to set the color and brightness of the ambient light according to their needs.
In addition to having the existing functions of multi-color ambient lighting, the LED light source of the rhythmic ambient lighting can control the three primary colors of red, green, and blue through driving modulation, so that the three colors have 256 levels of grayscale and can be mixed arbitrarily, and generate 256×256×256=16777216 colors, and can also be output through changes in sound, light, vehicle speed, and other signals. For example, the audio signal is processed by a dedicated audio processor, or directly output a digital signal from the right IHU, and output data through the Lin bus. The data is received and processed by the LED Driver, which controls the RGB LED light to achieve multifunctional effects such as monochromatic stillness, monochromatic breathing, color changing breathing, and music rhythm of the atmosphere light.
